DATE: 5 February - 26 March 2022 (Saturday mornings 09h00 – 13h00)

Hard Ground Etching

Duration: 8 Weeks
Rating: Level 1
Tutors: Collin Cole assisted by Dina Kroon

This course is designed to take you step by step through the process of HARD GROUND etching, from plate preparation to pulling the first proof.

About the Course

Intaglio printing, which derives its name from the Italian word intaglione, meaning to engrave or cut, covers a number of techniques, all of which involve the incision of drawings and designs onto a metal plate using the process of acid biting. Ink is later rubbed into the etched lines. The surface is then wiped clean and the plate is covered with damp, 100% cotton paper and printed using an etching press under high pressure. The paper is then peeled from the plate, revealing the printed image.

This course is designed to take you step by step through the process of HARD GROUND etching from plate preparation to pulling the first proof.
